Christoph is Head of Multi-Asset Trading at Union Investment. He joined Union in April 2014 and, with his team, is responsible for all trading activities associated with portfolio management of cash equities, fixed income, fund and ETF business, FX, listed and OTC derivatives, and securities lending.
Prior to this, Christoph was founder, partner and co-CEO/Head of Portfolio Management and Trading at Tungsten Capital Management, a hedge fund company (2005-2010). He was Head of Proprietary Equity Derivatives Desk at J.P. Morgan in London and Frankfurt from 1998-2004. Christoph began his career at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson in Cash Equity Trading.

This session will explore the process, challenges, benefits, and results of tokenising a private equity fund:


  • How can you build a business case to gain internal buy-in and investment?
  • Stage one: Deal structuring- How can you decide on asset type, shareholder type and jurisdiction?
  • Stage two: Legal structure- how to create a legal wrapper to form an investment vehicle.
  • Stage three: Technology selection- How can you decide which ledger to select, which platform, custody provider and AML/KYC partners to use?
  • Stage four: Distribution and marketing- exploring token generation and distribution as well as post-tokenisation management.

12:10 PM Private vs Public Network Panel: Comparing Public and Private Blockchains: How can you best assess different ledger protocols to enable the issuance, storage and transfer of tokens whilst meeting your compliance and KYC obligations?

  • What are the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of different blockchain protocols?
  • What are the pros and cons of permissioned vs permissionless DeFi and how will they both coexist?
  • How can you manage risks associated with using public networks when issuing traditional financial products?
  • How can you design a smart contract that will allow you to control the life cycle of a token to adhere to your risk appetite and compliance obligations?
  • Do private networks remove many of the benefits that this technology offers, or is this the only way forward for traditional institutions?
  • What are the latest developments with layer 2 scaling solutions and is this driving greater adoption of public networks?
